At Dr. Robert Shire, we love celebrating our patients. August 21st is Senior Day, and we couldn’t be more thankful to those seniors who choose to visit us and continue to make their health a priority.
This Senior Day, we’d love it if you took some time out of your day to connect with an aging loved one, share stories, listen to their wisdom, and make new memories with them.
Seniors, Celebrate Today With Movement!
As a chiropractor who gets the chance to work with many seniors, we wanted to celebrate the day by sharing some tips to help them stay moving for years to come. As we age, it’s common for muscles to tighten and joints to stiffen.
The best way to combat this is to create time every day to move, stretch, bend, or walk, which will help you increase flexibility and mobility as well as strength. Here are a few ways you can add more movement into your day without adding any struggle.
1. Taking the stairs instead of the elevator
2. Going for a walk around the block before bed
3. Parking a little further away from your destination than usual
4. Getting up to stretch and move every 20 minutes or so while watching TV
5. Taking an exercise class specifically designed for seniors
6. Investing in a pedometer and aiming to walk a certain number of steps each day
7. Taking the dog for a walk twice a day
8. Gardening or doing yard work
If it’s been a while since we’ve seen you in the practice, call us to get an appointment booked. As your Midtown NYC chiropractor, we’ll help make sure your nervous system is working optimally.
